Bittersweet Week 12 Visit

Ryan and I had our 12 week appointment on Monday and got some unexpected news. After the ultrasound, the doctor informed us that we had lost one of the twins. He reassured us that this is a common occurrence with multiples and had no explanation as to why it had happened. We were in shock as our 30 minute doctors appointment turned into a 2 1/2 hour night at the hospital that changed the course of our lives forever.

On the other hand, we are still expecting one healthy baby (who, by the looks of it, has dad's long legs!) on October 16th, 2012! We are so grateful that the  baby has a strong heartbeat and is growing quickly! It was a bittersweet moment after receiving the devastating news when we got to hear the surviving twin's heartbeat for the first time. Although we had mixed emotions, we are looking forward to the next visit so that we can see our baby grow and develop.

The love that Ryan and I have for one another is helping us to make sense of the situation, even though we realize that there may never be an answer. Our friends and family continue to be a great support for us during this difficult time. We've learned that there are no guarantees in life and that every moment is precious! We wouldn't change a thing we have done thus far. We shared our elation with everyone after we found out we were having twins and again we will share the joy and happiness with everyone the day that our baby is born! For now, we are staying strong and picking up the pieces so that we can provide the best home for Baby "O".  We feel so loved and want you to know that we feel the same about all of you as well.

Baby "O" at 12 weeks!

  1. Sad things in life happen for no reason. We have to tuck those memories in our soul and embrace what has happened and what will be.

    Much love.
